Do You Know That Filipinos Can Also Apply for a UK 10-Year Tourist Visa?

I’ve been flying in and out of the UK since 2013, so I’m not speaking from theory - I’ve lived the process. In 2017, while I was in the USA, I decided to go straight for a 10-year UK visa. At the time, my ex-partner was British, and although we had zero plans of settling there, we wanted the freedom to visit his family without reapplying every single time. That context mattered - but what really carried my application was my travel history and consistency as a genuine visitor. I was granted the 10-year visa, and it’s still valid until 2027. That alone proves a point most Filipinos overlook: long-term visas aren’t about luck - they’re about credibility. The UK doesn’t just give you 10 years unless you’ve already shown them, through your track record, that you’ll always leave.

Most Filipinos know you can apply for a UK Standard Visitor visa to visit England, Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland for up to six months. What a lot of people do not know is that the UK also offers a long-term visitor visa - valid for 2, 5, or even 10 years - that lets you enter multiple times without reapplying each time. Yes, a single UK visa that lasts a decade.

This is a game-changer for frequent travelers, business professionals, OFWs based in the Middle East or Europe who transit through the UK, and anyone who has always wanted to visit but dreads the visa process. In this guide, I will walk you through all the visa options, the real cost in 2026, how the new eVisa system works for Filipinos, and most importantly - what you need to do to actually get that 10-year stamp in your UKVI account.

UK Standard Visitor Visa Options and Fees in 2026

The UK Home Office offers six Standard Visitor visa categories depending on how long you want to stay and your purpose of visit. All fees below are the official 2026 rates directly from gov.uk:

Note: All fees are non-refundable even if your application is refused or if you are granted a shorter duration than what you applied for. The UK may give you a 2-year or 5-year visa even if you applied for 10 years, if they are not yet fully convinced.

IMPORTANT: The priority service (decision within 5 working days) costs an additional £500. The super priority service (next working day) costs £1,000 extra. These fees are also non-refundable if your visa is refused.

Big Change in 2026: The UK No Longer Stamps Your Passport

This is something every Filipino applicant in 2026 must understand before they apply: the UK has fully switched to an eVisa system. From 25 February 2026, successful visitor visa applicants no longer receive a physical vignette sticker in their passport. Your visa now exists entirely online, linked to your passport number through a UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) digital account.

What this means practically: you will not see a stamp in your passport after approval. Instead, you will receive an email with instructions to create your UKVI account and access your eVisa. Border Force officers at UK airports will simply scan your passport and verify your eVisa digitally. No sticker needed.

KEY POINT: Your eVisa is linked to the specific passport you used when you applied. If you renew your Philippine passport at any point during your 10-year visa validity, you MUST update your UKVI account to link your new passport number before you travel to the UK. Failing to do this will result in denied boarding.

How to Apply for a UK Visa from the Philippines in 2026

Despite the eVisa system, Filipinos still need to physically attend a VFS Global appointment for biometrics. Here is the complete step-by-step process:

Step 1: Complete the Online Application on GOV.UK

Go to gov.uk and complete your Standard Visitor visa application online. When selecting your visa type, choose 'Long-term Standard Visitor visa' then select '10 years' from the dropdown. Fill in your personal details, travel history for the past 10 years, employment

information, and your planned itinerary. Pay the visa fee online by credit or debit card (Visa or Mastercard). You will receive a reference number - save this carefully.

Step 2: Book Your VFS Global Appointment in Manila or Cebu

After completing the online form, book your biometrics appointment at one of two VFS Global centers in the Philippines. The VFS Manila center is located at 2nd Floor, Ecoplaza Building, 2305 Chino Roces Avenue Extension, Makati City. The VFS Cebu center serves applicants from Visayas and Mindanao. Book as early as possible - appointment slots fill up quickly, especially around peak travel season. A VFS service charge of approximately ₱1,150 in Manila (₱1,210 in Cebu) is collected per applicant on top of your Home Office visa fee.

Step 3: Prepare Your Documents

Bring originals and one set of photocopies of all documents to your appointment. You will scan and upload your supporting documents at VFS (or do it yourself online before the appointment). The core documents for a 10-year visa application are:

  • Valid Philippine passport (must be valid for the entire duration of your planned stay)

  • Completed online application form reference number

  • Bank statements for the last 6 months - showing consistent balance, regular income, and financial stability. Avoid large unexplained deposits made shortly before your application ('fund dumping' is a major red flag for UK visa officers)

  • Certificate of Employment with approved leave, salary, and length of service - for employed applicants

  • Business registration documents (DTI/SEC), ITR, and business bank statements - for self-employed and business owners

  • Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 2 years

  • Proof of property ownership or strong ties to the Philippines (land title, lease agreement, utility bills)

  • Previous UK or strong visa history (Schengen, US, Canada, Australia visas strengthen your application significantly)

  • Detailed travel itinerary - flight reservation and confirmed accommodation (hotel bookings or invitation letter from host)

  • Travel insurance for the duration of your trip

  • Recent passport-sized photos (follow the UK photo requirements: plain white background, no glasses)

Step 4: Attend Your VFS Appointment

Arrive at VFS Global on your scheduled date. Dress appropriately and arrive a few minutes early. You will be assigned a personal locker for your belongings before entering - bring only your application documents inside. At the appointment, VFS will collect your biometrics: fingerprints from all 10 fingers and a digital photograph. Your documents will be scanned. No companions are permitted inside except for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, or minors requiring assistance.

Important: Unlike many other visa applications, the UK does NOT require you to surrender your passport at VFS. You take your passport home the same day. Your visa decision and eVisa are handled entirely digitally.

Step 5: Wait for Your Decision

Standard processing takes approximately 3 weeks (15 working days) from the date of your biometrics appointment. You will receive an email from UKVI when a decision has been made. If approved, the email will include instructions on how to create your UKVI account and access your eVisa. Track your application status online using your reference number at the gov.uk tracking portal.

Step 6: Set Up Your UKVI Account and Access Your eVisa

Once approved, follow the instructions in your decision email to create your UKVI account at gov.uk. Your eVisa will be linked to your passport number. Log in to verify that all your details are correct - name, nationality, passport number, and visa validity dates. When you travel to the UK, Border Force will verify your eVisa by scanning your passport. You do not need to print anything or show anything on your phone. Your passport is your proof of permission.

Important Rules Every 10-Year Visa Holder Must Know

  • The 6-month rule: Even with a 10-year visa, you can only stay for a maximum of 6 months (180 days) per visit. This limit applies every time you enter.

  • No 'living' in the UK: If UK Border Force notices a pattern of very long visits with only short gaps in between, your visa can be cancelled. The rule of thumb: do not try to stay more than 6 months total in any rolling 12-month period.
No TB test required: Standard Visitor visas, including the 10-year version, do not require a tuberculosis test because each individual stay is under 6 months. A TB test is only required for those staying longer than 6 months.

  • No working: A Standard Visitor visa does not permit paid employment in the UK, including freelancing for UK clients. You can attend business meetings, conferences, and training - but not work.

  • Passport renewal: If your passport expires and you renew it during your 10-year visa validity, you must link your new passport to your UKVI account before traveling.

  • Your visa may be shorter than applied for: If the Home Office is not fully satisfied with your application for a 10-year visa, they may grant a 2-year or 5-year visa instead. The fee is non-refundable regardless.

Tips on How to Actually Get the 10-Year Visa

The 10-year visa is the most scrutinized category because you are asking the Home Office to trust you for a decade. Here is what actually works:

Build Your Visa History First

If this is your first ever UK visa application, applying directly for a 10-year visa is a high-risk move. Start with the standard 6-month visa (£135). Visit the UK, respect your visa conditions, and return home before your visa expires. Once you have a clean UK travel record - ideally 2 or more visits with no overstays - your 10-year application becomes far more credible to the entry clearance officer. Having Schengen, US, Canadian, or Australian visas on record also significantly strengthens your case.

Show 'Financial Seasoning,' Not Just a High Balance

UK visa officers look at 6 months of bank statements carefully. They want to see a consistent, organic balance - regular salary deposits, regular spending, savings that have grown steadily over time. What they are looking for is financial stability, not a one-time high balance. A large deposit made two weeks before your application (known as 'fund dumping' or 'show money') is one of the fastest ways to get a refusal. The money needs to be yours and it needs to have been there for a while.

Prove Strong Ties to the Philippines

The central question in every UK visitor visa application is: will this person leave the UK after their visit? Your job is to give the officer reason after reason to answer yes. Employment with approved leave is powerful. Business ownership with active operations is powerful. Property ownership is powerful. Minor children, elderly parents, or other family responsibilities that require you to be home are powerful. The more reasons you have to return, the stronger your application.

Be Specific About Your Purpose and Itinerary

Do not say you are visiting for 'tourism' with no details. A specific itinerary - dates, cities, planned activities, confirmed hotel bookings - shows that you are a genuine visitor with a real plan and a real reason to leave. Vague applications attract more scrutiny.

Is the 10-Year Visa Worth It for Filipinos?

If you are someone who visits the UK regularly - for business, for family, for travel - then yes, absolutely. Instead of paying £135 every time you want to visit and going through the full application process each time, a one-time £1,128 fee gives you a decade of access. That breaks down to less than £113 per year. For frequent travelers, that is exceptional value.

The key is being the right candidate when you apply. Build your visa history, show your financial stability, prove your ties to the Philippines, and make the Home Office feel confident that you will always come back. Do that, and the 10-year UK visa becomes one of the most valuable travel documents a Filipino can hold.
